Centre permitted 43 projects in eco-sensitive zones in the last 5 years | Latest News India

The Centre obtained 53 proposals for initiatives in eco-sensitive zones within the final 5 years, of which 43 have been granted environmental clearances, minister of state for setting Ashwini Kumar Choubey knowledgeable the Rajya Sabha. The minister was replying to questions raised by Trinamool Congress MP Jawhar Sircar on the variety of functions obtained within the final 5 years, year-wise, for environmental clearances of initiatives in eco-sensitive zones (ESZ) and guarded areas (PA); the variety of approvals granted over the past 5 years, year-wise; and the variety of functions obtained equally and cleared by the Wildlife Safety Board over the past 5 years, year-wise.

“As notified vide ministry’s workplace memorandum dated 17.05.2022, initiatives/actions in notified Eco-Delicate Zones round Protected Areas shall be regulated and ruled by the involved ESZ notification. Such regulated actions, if coated underneath the Surroundings Impression Evaluation (EIA) Notification, 2006 as amended, shall require prior environmental clearance as per the provisions of the stated notification whereas, if the ESZ shouldn’t be notified or is in draft stage, prior environmental clearance shall be required for initiatives/actions situated throughout the default ESZ, i.e., zone inside 10km of the boundaries of the protected areas together with Nationwide Parks and Sanctuaries,” Choubey stated.

“Such initiatives shall require consideration by the Nationwide Board of Wildlife (NBWL)/Standing Committee for Nationwide Board of Wildlife (SCNBWL). Accordingly, proposals are granted environmental clearance after due approval by the Skilled Appraisal Committee (EAC), constituted by the Ministry for the aim,” he added.
