Honduras stated on Saturday it was ending its decades-long diplomatic relations with Taiwan, bringing it nearer to China because it expands its footprint in Central America.
“The federal government of Honduras recognises the existence of only one China,” the Honduran overseas ministry stated in a submit on Twitter.
“The federal government of China is the one respectable authorities that represents all of China.”

The ministry stated Honduras had notified Taiwan of its choice to interrupt ties, and that it will not return to having any relationship or official contact with Taiwan.
The Honduran overseas minister travelled to China this week to open relations after President Xiomara Castro stated her authorities would begin ties with Beijing, Honduras being one among solely 14 nations to formally recognise Taiwan.
China views Taiwan as one among its provinces with no proper to state-to-state ties, a view the democratically elected authorities in Taipei strongly disputes.
The choice by Honduras to chop ties prompted warnings from the de facto U.S. embassy in Taipei on Saturday that China usually makes guarantees in change for recognition that stay unfulfilled.
