Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Saturday hit out on the Narendra Modi-led NDA authorities over its move to vest more powers within the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir for taking selections on issues associated to police and all-India service officers.
Kharge alleged that the Modi authorities desires to delay the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and, even when the statehood is restored, desires to maintain the newly elected state authorities on the mercy of the L-G.

The Union dwelling ministry amended the foundations below the Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, which was enacted for the bifurcation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir into Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh whereas abrogating Article 370.
The transfer offers extra powers to the Jammu and Kashmir L-G for taking selections on police, officers of all-India providers such because the IAS and the IPS, and granting sanctions for prosecution in varied circumstances.

Kharge stated the insertion of recent sections giving extra powers to the L-G has “solely two meanings”.
“Modi Govt desires to delay the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, regardless that the Supreme Courtroom has mandated Meeting Elections by Sept thirtieth, 2024,” the veteran Congress chief wrote.
“Even when full statehood is restored, it desires to maintain the newly elected State Govt on the mercy of the LG, by clamping its government energy,” he added. “One other instance of “Samvidhan Hatya Diwas” persevering with day by day below Modi Govt.”
