Bateman emerged on the chief of the sect – referred to as the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (FLDS) – in 2019 after duping staunch followers into believing its former chief, Warren Jeffs, died in a Texas jail the place he’s serving life for raping two ladies, in response to the Salt Lake Metropolis Tribune investigation.
