Daily footfall in Sabarimala temple restricted to 90,000 pilgrims

In wake of unprecedented rush, a gathering chaired by chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday determined to limit the each day footfall in Sabarimala temple to 90,000 pilgrims.

On Monday too, the temple witnessed heavy rush as over 1.19 lakh pilgrims booked the pilgrimage and several other roads resulting in the shrine in Pathanamthitta district have been clogged since Sunday evening.

On Saturday, a mini stampede passed off in Marakootum, on strategy to the hilltop, during which a number of pilgrims and police personnel acquired minor accidents prompting the excessive court docket to carry a particular sitting on Sunday who instructed the temple board and police to take related steps.

The CM referred to as a gathering in view of the HC directive and mounting complaints of pilgrims who have been compelled to face greater than 8-10 hours.

The sanctum sanctorum which opens at 3am might be closed at 11:30 pm. Evaluation assembly might be held each week by the temple affairs minister and anxious division heads. Parking facility in Nilakkal, major base camp, may even be improved to accommodate extra automobiles, the CM mentioned.

“We are going to take all attainable steps to make sure easy pilgrimage. We are going to inform the excessive court docket about steps being taken to manage the frenzy,” Travancore Dewasom Board (TDB) president Okay Ananthagopan mentioned.

The TDB manages each day affairs of the temple.
