Dharmasthala ‘secret burials’: Bengaluru court grants ex parte injunction to delete over 8,000 links on various platforms | Bangalore News

A Bengaluru court docket has granted an ex parte injunction to “delete/de-index” a complete of 8,812 hyperlinks on numerous platforms associated to the Dharmasthala secret burials case.

The injunction order on July 18 by the Extra Metropolis Civil and Periods Court docket was based mostly on a petition filed by Harshendra Kumar D, brother of BJP MP D Veerendra Heggade and secretary of the Shri Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Academic Society.

The petition had sought the court docket to concern instructions to “take away/delete/deindex the unverified false, baseless, reckless and defamatory allegations…towards the plaintiff, his elder brother Dr D Veerendra Heggade and his members of the family, the temple and the establishments run by them.”

The case pertains to alleged secret burials at Dharmasthala – a temple city within the coastal Dakshina Kannada district – which, based on the petition, “precipitated lack of fame and integrity of the plaintiff”.

Earlier this month, a First Data Report (FIR) was registered at Dharmasthala police station based mostly on a grievance by a whistleblower who alleged that he was compelled to bury a number of our bodies of girls which had indicators of sexual assault. On July 19, the Karnataka Authorities introduced a Particular Investigation Crew (SIT) to probe the case, based mostly on requests by legal professionals and social activists.

The petition listed 4,140 YouTube movies, 932 Fb posts and movies, 3,584 posts on Instagram, 37 Reddit threads, 108 experiences printed by newspapers and on-line portals throughout the nation, and 41 posts on the platform X.

The petition had a complete of 338 respondents, which included nationwide and state media retailers, YouTube, Meta, Reddit and social activists from throughout Karnataka and the neighbouring state of Kerala. It sought instructions “from abuse of freedom of speech and management from importing false, frivolous and reckless defamatory video contents”.

“Unknown individuals or events are cropping up and beginning to make allegations towards the plaintiff, his elder and his members of the family, the temple and the establishments run by them,” petition stated, and “vested individuals are persevering with to make false, frivolous, baseless and vexatious video contents.”

The petition stated it “contended that although there isn’t a allegation towards the plaintiff and his members of the family within the FIR or within the investigation up to now made, the defendants are making defamatory and false allegations with none foundation.”
