The wind-driven 125 fireplace that pressured the evacuation of the city of Simla southeast of metro Denver on Thursday afternoon has been largely contained, authorities introduced Friday morning.
Breaking out in grass Thursday afternoon, this fireplace burned throughout about 1,000 acres — till Elbert County crews used highway graders to clear vegetation. Simla, with a inhabitants of about 600, sits 48 miles northeast of Colorado Springs.
The Elizabeth Fireplace Division in a Twitter posting declared the fireplace 96% contained.
The fireplace is at present 96% contained. Crews will stay on scene to place out hotspots till morning. That is the ultimate replace. #125fire
