EU watchdog says asset managers should be fined for overcharging

LONDON, Could 17 (Reuters) – European Union guidelines for the close to 20 trillion euro ($22 trillion) funding and hedge funds sector must be modified to cease buyers being overcharged, the bloc’s securities watchdog stated on Wednesday, with fines imposed for breaches.

The European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) stated there’s a want for higher readability in EU funding and hedge funds legal guidelines on what constitutes “undue prices” on buyers.

Fund managers who deliberately or negligently infringe such a rule must be punished with a effective that’s proportionate to the hurt trigger to buyers, the watchdog stated.
