Eviction in Assam, alarm bells in Nagaland: ‘Guard against illegal immigration’ | India News

Because the Assam authorities prepares for its subsequent eviction drive in an space neighbouring Nagaland, the Nagaland authorities has ordered “heightened vigilance” towards the motion of displaced individuals into the state.

“In view of the eviction drive towards the unlawful immigrants undertaken by the Authorities of Assam, there may be apprehension/threat that some displaced people might try to cross into our state. On this regard, all Deputy Commissioners are hereby directed to heightened vigilance and take proactive measures to stop any potential inflow of unlawful immigrants inside your respective jurisdiction,” states the order.

The order goes on to state that that is obligatory for “sustaining legislation and order” and for “safeguarding the demographic integrity of our state.”

Nagaland Joint Commissioner Nokchasashi, towards whose signature the order had been issued, informed The Indian Categorical that the order was prompted by preparations for evictions alongside the inter-state border.

“Up to now, there is no such thing as a report of anybody coming into, however officers involved have been alerted to apprehend anybody making an attempt to,” he stated.

Nagaland has an Internal Line Allow (ILP) regime, below which any Indian citizen who doesn’t belong to the state is required to obtain an official journey doc to go to. An Indian citizen who doesn’t belong to the states requiring an ILP can’t keep past a specified time.
