Exhibition to show glimpse of India’s artistic development since independence

A brand new group exhibition with artworks from the likes of MF Husain, SH Raza, Ram Kumar and others will present a glimpse of the journey of Indian artists over the past 75 years. Ranging from November 1 on the India Habitat Centre (IHC) right here, the “Colors of Freedom” will characteristic as many as 53 veterans and modern artists of renown. Organised by the Centre of Worldwide Trendy Artwork (CIMA), Kolkata, the exhibition goals to offer a glimpse of the general visible area formed by 75 years of India’s independence. The present will embody excerpts from Satyajit Ray’s iconic movie “Pather Panchali”, textiles, indigenous subaltern artwork in addition to works by artists throughout generations from post-independence India.

“Works by over 50 main artists throughout generations, 1947 onwards, have been featured on this exhibition. Whereas we now have chosen some main veteran modernists, we now have additionally featured seminal works by comparatively much less exhibited artists, unknown weavers and daring visible renderings by subaltern and indigenous masters,” Rakhi Sarkar, director and curator, CIMA, stated in an announcement.

Works by artists reminiscent of Somnath Hore, Bhupen Khakhar, Sanat Kar, Manjit Bawa, Arpita Singh, Paramjit Singh, Ganesh Pyne, Jogen Chowdhury, Lalu Prasad Shaw and Paresh Maity, amongst others can be exhibited throughout the 10-day present.

Different lesser exhibited artists embody Swarna Chitrakar, Jaidev Baghel, Sonal Varshneya, Chandrapal Panjre, Manish Moitra and Swapnesh Vaigankar.

“Indian artwork has imbibed the essence of assorted cultures and civilisations and created an enchanting visible vocabulary which is uniquely its personal. This we discover throughout inventive genres, crafts, weaving, cinema and, after all, the visible arts. Colors of Freedom is all about celebrating that great amalgamation of concepts, types, iconography and colors, leading to a novel and magical expertise,” Sarkar added.
