Former defence secretary Ajay Kumar appointed UPSC chairman | India News

Former defence secretary Ajay Kumar was on Tuesday appointed chairman of the UPSC, in keeping with a Union Personnel Ministry order.

The submit of Union Public Service Fee (UPSC) chairman fell vacant after the completion of Preeti Sudan’s tenure on April 29.

Kumar’s appointment was cleared by President Droupadi Murmu, in keeping with the order.

A 1985-batch retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Kerala cadre, Kumar labored as defence secretary from August 23, 2019, to October 31, 2022, in keeping with his service data.

The UPSC — which conducts civil companies examinations to pick out officers for the IAS, Indian Overseas Service (IFS) and the Indian Police Service (IPS), amongst others — is headed by a md and might have a most of 10 members.
At current, there’s a emptiness of two members within the fee.
