Gujarat elections: Upset over candidate selection, Congress workers vandalise party headquarters

Sad with the number of candidates for the upcoming polls, Congress employees from Jamalpur-Khadia and Vatva seats in Ahmedabad metropolis protested in opposition to their management and vandalised the occasion headquarters right here Monday.

Staff from the minority-dominated Jamalpur-Khadia protested in opposition to tickets being given to sitting MLA Imran Khedawala who might be preventing AIMIM Gujarat president Sabir Kabliwala and BJP’s Bhushan Bhatt. The protesters alleged that Khedawala was related with native real-estate foyer and can lose the polls this time.

The agitated employees defaced partitions of the Congress headquarters and wrote slogans in opposition to senior Congress chief Bharatsinh Solanki and accused him of promoting tickets to Khedawala. They sought a ticket for Shahnawaz Sheikh from Jamalpur-Khadia, raised slogans and broken the name-plates of former Congress presidents, together with that of Solanki. In addition they burnt his posters.

Within the 2017 polls, Khedawala had defeated BJP’s Bhatt by profitable 58 % of the votes polled. Nonetheless, in 2012, when Kabliwala had fought as an impartial, Bhatt had emerged victorious by defeating the Congress candidate.
