Heavy Snowfall Kills 15, Injures Dozens In Afghanistan

Almost 30 folks injured as a result of heavy snowfall in Afghanistan.

Kabul:

Widespread heavy snowfall throughout a number of provinces in Afghanistan over the previous three days has resulted within the tragic lack of 15 lives and accidents to just about 30 people, TOLOnews reported.

Moreover, statistics obtained from Balkh and Faryab provinces by TOLOnews point out a devastating influence on livestock, with practically ten thousand animals perishing as a result of latest snowfalls.

Abdul Qadir, a resident of Sar-e-Pul, expressed the prevailing nervousness among the many inhabitants, stating, “The snow is ongoing and really heavy, and individuals are anxious as their livestock have suffered losses, many roads are blocked, and there’s hardly any motion.”

One other resident, Amanullah, emphasised the pressing want for presidency help, particularly for these affected by highway blockages and the plight of hungry livestock.

In response to the disaster, Afghanistan has introduced the formation of a committee comprising numerous ministries to deal with the damages, significantly to livestock house owners. The authorities have allotted fifty million Afghanis to help livestock house owners within the provinces of Balkh, Jawzjan, Badghis, Faryab, and Herat.

Misbahuddin Mustaeen, the Taliban-appointed spokesperson for the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, highlighted the swift response of committees shaped in all provinces. These committees are actively working to open blocked roads, distribute meals and fodder to affected communities, and rescue these stranded within the aftermath of the heavy snowfall.

Erfanullah Sharafzoi, spokesperson for the Afghan Purple Crescent Society, stated that winter service staff have already supplied help in provinces corresponding to Badghis, Ghor, Farah, Kandahar, Helmand, Jawzjan, and Nuristan, reaching people affected by the latest snowfalls.

The extreme snowfall has resulted within the closure of key transportation routes, together with the Salang Move and entry to varied provinces corresponding to Ghor, Badghis, Ghazni, Herat, and Bamyan. Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works, confirmed the momentary blockage of those routes as a result of heavy snowfall over the previous two days.

Esmatullah Muradi, spokesperson for the provincial governor of Faryab, reported that heavy snowfall within the province led to highway closures in most districts, leaving residents in distant areas stranded. Tragically, one individual within the Chahar Sada district on the Turkmenistan border misplaced their life, TOLOnews reported.
