How Florida Students Survived Mass Shooting Using Chewing Gum

A Florida State College pupil used chewing gum to cowl their classroom home windows with paper throughout a mass capturing on Thursday. 

One of many college students, Jeffrey LaFray, recalled the second and mentioned that whereas gunshots have been being fired close by, he and his classmates have been inside it attempting to cover and keep protected. 

He instructed Good Morning America that their instructor wished to cowl the home windows with paper in order that the shooter could not see inside, however they did not have tape to stay the paper. So, the scholars began chewing gum after which used it to stay the paper to the home windows. 

Remembering a terrifying second, he mentioned, “The instructor was asking if any of us had tape to tape up some paper. And nobody had tape, and so a few of us, we simply bought out our gum and began chewing so we may stick some paper to the home windows.”

A mass capturing occurred close to the college’s campus, which was allegedly carried out by the stepson of a neighborhood deputy sheriff. 20-year-old Phoenix Ikner used her stepmother’s former service weapon to hold out the alleged assault.

One other FSU graduate pupil recalled a harrowing encounter through the mass capturing. 

A 23-year-old, Madison Askins, shared an incident of how she survived pretending to be useless. Recalling an incident, Ms Askins mentioned she was strolling with a good friend close to a union constructing when she was shot within the buttocks. 

She instructed ABC Information, “After I was shot within the buttocks from behind, I fell to the bottom, stored my eyes shut, and performed useless. I launched all of the muscle tissue in my physique, closed my eyes, and held my breath. And I might take brief breaths in between once I wanted to.”

Ms Askins talked about that she hoped to flee from the eyes of the shooter if she performed useless. She mentioned, “I do know for sure if I used to be transferring, he would’ve shot me once more,” including that the scholars scattered in each route after they heard the gunman reloading his weapon and saying, “Preserve working.”

Two individuals have been killed and 5 others have been injured within the mass capturing.

Mr Ikner is presently hospitalised as he was shot by the police through the incident.
