Interstate 70 closed close to Vail and Silverthorne on Sunday for “security issues” as snow battered the Colorado mountains, in keeping with the Colorado Division of Transportation.
The eastbound interstate was closed between Exit 180 for East Vail and Exit 190 for Vail Go Summit, about 1 mile west of Copper Mountain, as of 6 p.m. Sunday, CDOT officers stated.
CDOT cameras within the space of the closure confirmed snow-covered roads and white-out circumstances.
Westbound I-70 was additionally closed at 6 p.m. Sunday between Exit 216 for U.S. 6 close to Loveland Go and Exit 205 for Colorado 9 close to Silverthorne, in keeping with CDOT.
A number of Waze customers reported “climate hazards” in each closed sections of I-70.
