India To Send 80 NDRF Personnel To Myanmar For Quake Relief, Rescue

New Delhi:

India is sending a contingent of 80 Nationwide Catastrophe Response Pressure (NDRF) personnel for reduction and rescue works in earthquake-hit Myanmar, officers right here mentioned Saturday.

The personnel of the federal catastrophe contingency drive are being deployed underneath ‘Operation Brahma’ with quake rescue tools like sturdy concrete cutters, drill machines, hammers and many others. to supply succour to the neighbouring nation.

“A workforce of 80 NDRF personnel are being airlifted to Myanmar onboard two IAF sorties from Hindon in Ghaziabad. The groups are anticipated to succeed in by Saturday night,” an official informed PTI.

Commandant P Ok Tiwary of the eighth NDRF battalion primarily based in Ghaziabad close to Delhi will lead the USAR (City Search And Rescue) workforce.

The workforce can also be taking alongside rescue canine for the collapsed construction search and rescue operation being undertaken as per Worldwide Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) norms, the official mentioned.

Myanmar and neighbouring Thailand had been rocked by high-intensity earthquake on Friday, destroying buildings, bridges and different buildings. A minimum of 1,002 folks had been reportedly killed in Myanmar.

India has deployed NDRF overseas on two earlier events — through the 2015 Nepal earthquake and the 2023 Turkiye quake.
