Ekrem Imamoglu has been arrested, interrogated, jailed and stripped of his mayorship in lower than per week.
Istanbul, Turkey:
Istanbul’s embattled Ekrem Imamoglu was formally nominated as a presidential candidate by the opposition CHP celebration for the 2028 elections, a celebration spokesman informed AFP on Monday.
The Republican Folks’s Get together (CHP) — the principle opposition celebration and the second largest celebration in parliament — held a main election on Sunday, at which the one candidate was Imamoglu, the principle political rival of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Imamoglu has been arrested, interrogated, jailed and stripped of his mayorship in lower than per week following a graft and terror probe that the opposition has slammed as a political “coup.”
