Karnataka announces Rs 10 lakh cash award for International Booker Prize winner Banu Mushtaq, translator Deepa Bhasthi | Bangalore News

The Karnataka authorities Monday introduced a money prize of Rs 10 lakh every to Worldwide Booker Prize-winning creator Banu Mushtaq and translator Deepa Bhasthi. Throughout a ceremony held to felicitate the creator at Vidhana Soudha, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah introduced the money prize.

Furthermore, the CM stated that the federal government would supply help to translate extra of Mushtaq’s tales into English. The creator received the 2025 Worldwide Booker Prize for Coronary heart Lamp, a choice of her brief tales in Kannada, which was translated by Bhasthi.

“Along with her tales, she has communicated to the world… her heartfelt ache. She has labored as a voice of ladies, particularly Muslim ladies,” Siddaramaiah stated on the felicitation ceremony.

Referring to the traditional Kannada work Kavirajamarga, Siddaramaiah stated the guide batted for a compassionate view of different religions and concepts.

Highlighting the significance of literature, the Karnataka CM stated, “Literature unites us and doesn’t divide… Kannada literature has a protracted historical past of 1,200 years, which helped unite folks.”

Hailing Bhasthi, he stated that if she had not translated Mushtaq’s works, it will have been troublesome for each to win the Prize. “I provide particular congratulations to her,” he stated, including that the Karnataka authorities thanked her for her efforts.

Siddaramaiah stated that the federal government would buy Mushtaq’s books for libraries run by it on the panchayat stage.

Musthaq is the primary creator writing in Kannada to win the distinguished Worldwide Booker Prize.
