Karnataka rain: Flood alerts issued to regions downstream of Krishnarajasagar, Tungabhadra reservoirs | Bangalore News

A number of low-lying areas in Karnataka, downstream of main reservoirs, are reeling underneath flood menace, as heavy rain is anticipated to proceed, particularly within the coastal and Malnad districts, within the coming week.

The Karnataka State Pure Catastrophe Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) on Sunday issued flood warnings to areas downstream of Krishnarajasagar and Tungabhadra reservoirs. The dams have been receiving excessive inflows on account of heavy rainfall within the catchment areas of the Cauvery and Tungabhadra rivers. Of the 2, the areas downstream of the Tungabhadra reservoir confronted a bigger menace as an outflow starting from 90,000 to 1.4 lakh cusecs is anticipated from the Tungabhadra dam.

The India Meteorological Division (IMD) on Sunday issued an orange alert to coastal and Malnad districts for the following two days, whereas Bengaluru and surrounding areas have been issued a yellow alert for the interval.

The depth of rain is anticipated to subside throughout the week.

Low-lying areas adjoining to rivers and their tributaries confronted a menace because of the steady downpour.

A number of minor landslides have been reported over the previous two days, particularly within the Malnad districts. Among the many areas dealing with the chance of inundation are components of Kodagu, Mysuru, and Bellary districts. Entry to a few distant villages within the Kodagu district was reduce off as water entered a number of households.

As per KSNDMC information, the state has obtained regular rainfall within the present monsoon season, beginning June 1, whereas the general rain recorded was 439 mm, in comparison with a traditional of 427 mm — an extra of three per cent, as on July 26.
