Leopard kills 11-year-old, fourth case in 3 months: Officials | Bengaluru

Amid forest officers looking for a leopard that claimed the lifetime of a 60-year-old lady in Kannayakanahalli on Friday, officers on Sunday stated the animal killed an 11-year-old boy in Horanahalli in T Narasipura Taluk.

Forest officers stated Jayanth, an 11-year-old boy from Horanahalli in T Narasipura, went for defecation within the open at round 8 pm on Friday and didn’t return. The villagers looked for the boy, however there was no hint.

“On Sunday morning, Jayanth’s half-eaten carcass was discovered close to the village,” officers stated.

The villagers staged a ‘Rasta Roko’ (block the highway) protest and raised slogans towards forest officers.

That is the second dying by a leopard within the final 4 days and the fourth in three months. On Friday, a leopard killed Siddamma, a 60-year-old lady, within the yard of her home.

Jayanth’s grandfather, Ajjayya Gowda, knowledgeable the reporters that the villagers had notified the forest officers of the leopard’s presence within the village per week in the past, however no motion was taken.

He expressed his anguish on the official’s negligence within the leopard claiming the lifetime of villagers.

The elevated leopard menace in T Narasipura Taluk has created panic amongst villagers.

“We launched a search operation to catch the leopard on Saturday itself. We’ve put in 20 entice cameras and put cages in 5 locations,” Mysuru circle chief conservator of Forests, Dr Malathi Priya, instructed HT.

She stated the leopards are taking shelter in sugarcane fields and attacking people within the night.

“The villagers have been instructed to not step out of their homes after 6 pm,” she added.

On Sunday, T Narasipura MLA, Ashwin Gowda, and DC Dr Okay V Rajendra visited the villagers and pacified them, assuring them the leopard might be captured on the earliest.

On October 31, 2022, Manjunath (20), a second-year scholar from Maharaja Faculty, Mysuru, was killed by a leopard at Madgar Lingayyanahundi village.

He was returning house along with his buddies from Muddumaramma temple. Regardless of Manjunath’s buddies elevating an alarm, the leopard killed him earlier than villagers rushed to the spot.

On December 2, 2022, Meghana (22) was killed by a leopard at S Kebbehundi village. The incident occurred at 6.30 pm when Meghana went to scrub garments in her yard. Enraged villagers staged protests in entrance of T Narasipura Taluk hospital until late at evening and refused to take the lifeless physique. The villagers insisted district minister V Somannashould go to them and supply compensation of ₹50 lakh.

Forest officers quickly launched a combing operation and, utilizing thermal cameras, caught the leopard and despatched it to the Bannerghatta Zoo.
