Actor Matthew Modine confirmed like to Val Kilmer as he mirrored on a tense, likelihood run-in with the Hollywood icon that will have led to Modine starring in Stanley Kubrick’s 1987 basic “Full Steel Jacket.”
Modine, who was amongst those that paid tribute to Kilmer after his demise on Tuesday, shared an excerpt from his 2005 memoir, “Full Steel Jacket Diary.” Within the excerpt, Modine described seeing Kilmer “clearly cursing” at him whereas Modine was consuming with David Alan Grier at The Supply, a former vegetarian restaurant in Los Angeles.
Grier ― who labored with Kilmer on the 1984 comedy “High Secret!” ― approached him and, after sharing fun, gestured for Modine to return over.
“Val stops smiling. His face twists up like he simply ate a lemon,” Modine wrote.
He later continued, “Val lets me know why he’s upset. He’s fed up with me getting components that he may very well be enjoying.”
Kilmer was speaking concerning the lead position of “Full Steel Jacket,” Non-public James T. “Joker” Davis, for which Kilmer had recorded an audition. However Modine stated he didn’t know “something about” getting the position — and neither did his supervisor when Modine later known as him.
