Mayoral polls stalled again as MCD house erupts into chaos. AAP asks, ‘Why so much force?’

New Delhi: Slogans have been raised and the electoral roll challenged because the Municipal Company of Delhi (MCD) home convened beneath the duvet of heavy police deployment Tuesday to elect its mayor. With the home in session Tuesday, newly-elected councillors have been administered the oath of workplace in Hindi, English, Punjabi, Urdu, and even Sanskrit.

The proceedings have been marred by sloganeering with BJP councillors breaking into chants of “Jai Shri Ram” and “Jai Bajrang Bali” from the dais after being administered the oath of workplace, and a minimum of one AAP councillor, Mohammed Aamil Malik, chanting “Allah Hu Akbar”.

“I hail from Uttar Pradesh, the place Sita’s identify comes earlier than Ram, so slogans needs to be Jai Siya Ram, and never Jai Shree Ram,” Congress councillor Shagufta Chaudhary informed her colleagues from the BJP.
