‘More dangerous than corona’: Karnataka Cong, JD(S) hit out at BJP over ‘Operation Lotus’ in Telangana

In a sequence of tweets, the Karnataka Congress on Thursday attacked the ‘horse-trading’ techniques of the BJP and questioned the supply of the cash allegedly provided to the ruling occasion MLAs.

“In Telangana, those that take up the management (to engineer defections) have been provided Rs 100 cr below Operation Lotus and every of the (defecting) MLAs have been provided Rs 50 cr. The place did the cash come from?” Congress tweeted with the hashtag #BJPKillsDemocracy.

‘Operation Lotus’ is a time period used to check with makes an attempt by BJP to poach opposition MLAs to topple governments in varied states.

Karnataka is not any stranger to ‘Operation Lotus’ as one of many first such cases was reported within the state below former chief minister and BJP Parliamentary Panel member B S Yediyurappa in 2008. The operation was repeated in 2019 when 17 legislators from the Congress-JD(S) coalition authorities below H D Kumaraswamy defected to the BJP in 2019.

On Thursday, Congress mentioned that the epidemic of “Operation Lotus, which is killing democracy, was extra harmful than the Corona pandemic. The illness which originated in Karnataka is now spreading all through the nation and is killing democracy”.

“There are allegations towards BJP that they’ve spent Rs 7,000-8,000 crores to buy legislators. The corrupt cash has now reached Telangana, after Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra,” Congress mentioned in a tweet, questioning why central companies akin to Enforcement Directorate and CBI haven’t taken up the case. “Is IT, (and) ED afraid to enter BJP houses?” Congress tweeted.

In the meantime, JD(S) state spokesperson Prathap Kanagal sought to know the supply of the cash recovered from the intermediaries working to repeat ‘Operation Lotus’ in Telangana. “Who bought this cash from Delhi and gave it? Will Dwelling Minister Amit Shah who has taken up electoral duties (of BJP) reply? Shouldn’t the ED (and) CBI probe this case?” he requested in a tweet.
