MSC IRINA, the world’s largest container ship by capability, docked at Vizhinjam Worldwide Seaport, which was commissioned final month. That is the maiden name of the ship to a South Asian port. Port director Divya S Iyer welcomed the ship’s captain and crew.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan hailed the arrival of MSC IRINA on the port as a proud and historic second for the state.
“Kerala welcomes MSC IRINA, the biggest container ship to name at any South Asian port, with immense pleasure. Measuring 399.9m in size and 61.3m in width, with a capability of 24,346 TEUs, her arrival at Vizhinjam marks a historic second. A proud milestone that underscores our port’s strategic world function and galvanises our collective dream of progress,’’ Vijayan posted on X.
