No water diversion to Bengaluru South district, says MLA Ranganath after protest over link canal | Bangalore News

A hyperlink canal challenge that goals to provide water from the Hemavathi dam to Kunigal in Karnataka’s Tumakuru district, round 70 km from Bengaluru, is on the centre of an argument following a large protest attended by leaders of the Opposition BJP and JD(S) on Saturday.

On Sunday, Kunigal MLA Dr HD Ranganath of the Congress launched a press release accusing the Opposition ranks of deceptive individuals by claiming that the water will likely be diverted to Magadi and Ramanagar, that are a part of Bengaluru South district, utilizing the canal.

The protest held on the challenge web site at Nitturu in Gubbi taluk, Tumakuru district, was attended by BJP MLAs Suresh Gowda and Jyothi Ganesh, and JD(S) MLA MT Krishnappa, together with representatives of farmer organisations and seers.

The Bengaluru-Honnavar freeway was blocked by protesters who demanded the federal government instantly scrap the challenge.
