Former US President Donald Trump’s eldest son and businessman Donald Trump Jr. took a veiled jibe at a distinguished Democratic Congressman over the suspected Chinese language surveillance balloon that was shot down by the US army on Saturday. Referring to a suspected Chinese language intelligence operative who reportedly developed in depth ties with a US Congressman, Trump Jr. mentioned China is in search of “different means to gather intelligence” because the spy’s “boyfriend” was “now not on Home Intel”.

“You realize why the Chinese language are all of a sudden flying balloons over the continental US? As a result of Fang Fang’s boyfriend is now not on Home Intel so that they’re left in search of different means to gather intelligence,” he tweeted.

Whereas Trump Jr. didn’t take any title, his tweet was apparently aimed toward Eric Swalwell, a Democratic Congressman, whose alleged ties with a Chinese language nationwide named Fang Fang aka Christine Fang was reported first by Axios in 2020. Final month, Speaker Kevin McCarthy expelled Swalwell from the Home Intelligence Committee, following by means of on his promise to unseat the progressive Democrat citing his affiliation with a suspected Chinese language spy who focused US politicians.

The suspected surveillance balloon that had spent days flying above the US was downed over its territorial waters on Saturday.

“At present’s deliberate and lawful motion demonstrates that President (Joe) Biden and his nationwide safety group will at all times put the security and safety of the American individuals first whereas responding successfully to the PRC’s unacceptable violation of our sovereignty,” Secretary of Protection Lloyd Austin mentioned in a press release.

China had insisted that the balloon was a civilian airship primarily for meteorological functions and had deviated from its deliberate course attributable to winds and “restricted steering functionality”. China’s international ministry blasted the US motion in a press release Sunday morning, saying the downing of the “civilian” plane was “clearly overreacting and critically violating worldwide apply.”
