Open to review of RTI rules, says Karnataka Govt after legislators allege misuse | Bangalore News

With a number of legislators slicing throughout social gathering traces alleging misuse of the Proper to Info (RTI) Act, the Karnataka Authorities stated on Tuesday that it was open to reviewing the foundations underneath the Act to stop harassment and blackmailing of officers.

The dialogue on the RTI Act adopted a query raised within the legislature by Congress MLA Mahantesh Koujalagi, who sought to know whether or not the Authorities would provoke motion in opposition to these misusing the laws by concentrating on officers.

Responding on behalf of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Legislation and Parliamentary Affairs Minister H Ok Patil stated the state authorities can amend guidelines framed underneath the Act. “If we come to know concerning the misuse, we are able to take motion. Koujalagi steered the Authorities hike RTI charges as a measure to curb the misuse, including that RTI purposes have been being filed by means of proxies. “A number of purposes are filed by some individuals simply to harass officers. The price per web page is mounted at Rs 2. That is inflicting the issue. For BPL candidates, there is no such thing as a charge for as much as 100 pages. That is resulting in quite a lot of misuse,” he stated.

Patil famous that the Authorities had blacklisted 26 RTI activists, aside from dismissing State Info Commissioner Ravindra Gurunath Dhakappa after the Lokayukta arrested him for allegedly taking a bribe from a blacklisted RTI applicant.

BJP MLA Sunil Kumar alleged that some activists weren’t permitting any authorities work to be carried out. “They acquire the knowledge and share it with the Lokayukta. Even public work will not be taking place due to these RTI activists. We must always make some guidelines,” he stated, suggesting a restrict for the variety of purposes an individual can file.
