Pahalgam aftermath: Karnataka to hold mock drill tomorrow but no effect likely on civilian life. Here’s why | Bangalore News

In compliance with Residence Ministry’s directive, Karnataka will on Wednesday maintain mock drills in Bengaluru metropolis, Raichur and Karwar. After the fear assault in Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22, the MHA ordered mock drills at 244 areas throughout the nation on Might 7. The mock drills on Wednesday is not going to have an effect on the routine of civilians in Karnataka, a senior police official stated, including that they might be held within the workplace of the Directorate Basic Fireplace Companies and the civil defence quarters at 4 pm.

The drill will likely be carried out in different elements of the state over the following week, the officer stated.

Prashanth Kumar Thakur, director common, Fireplace and Emergency Service and State Catastrophe Response Drive (SDRF), has directed districts involved within the state to undertake the drills as a part of ‘Operation Abhyaas’.

Thakur, who can be the Director Basic of Police and Commandant Basic Residence Guards; and Director of Civil Defence, stated the excercise will embody activating sirens, blackout measures, search and rescue operations, organising momentary hospital companies and evacuation of civilians from endangered areas to bunkers in demilitarised zones.

“There are 35 air raid sirens put in at numerous police and hearth stations throughout Bengaluru, of which 32 are at the moment operational,” stated DGP Thakur. He added that upcoming mock drills may also concentrate on hospital mobilisation and reduction and rescue measures in circumstances of emergency.

The air raid sirens, every with a spread of about 3 km, are designed to alert civilians in case of an impending aerial assault. “When the sirens sound—usually for 2 to 3 minutes—it alerts that civilians ought to instantly search shelter in concrete buildings or designated bunkers,” a senior Karnataka police officer stated.

Thakur famous that Bengaluru has round 5,000 civil defence personnel, together with medical doctors, college students, and cadets from the Nationwide Cadet Corps (NCC). “These civil defence personnel have already undergone coaching and will likely be reactivated, sensitised, and strategically deployed throughout the town,” he stated.
