Paul Krugman delivered a damning critique of the present GOP in his newest column for The New York Instances, suggesting individuals will “spend a lot of 2023 feeling nostalgic for the nice outdated days of greed and cynicism” in U.S. politics.
The economist, who was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economics in 2008, mentioned tradition wars waged by Republicans are “not simply posturing by politicians primarily all in favour of reducing taxes on the wealthy” as a result of “many elected Republicans are actually real fanatics.”
And the GOP’s razor-thin management of the Home “signifies that the inmates might be working half the asylum,” he added.
If Rep. Kevin Mccarthy (R-Calif.) wins sufficient votes to turn out to be Home Speaker, then “precise energy will clearly relaxation within the palms of individuals like (conspiracy theorist Rep.) Marjorie Taylor Greene,” Krugman warned.
“And what I don’t perceive is how the U.S. authorities goes to operate,” he concluded. “How do you cope with individuals who consider, roughly, that the 2020 election was stolen by an unlimited conspiracy of pedophiles? I don’t know the reply, however prospects don’t look good.”
