Property tax rates in Jammu and Kashmir least in country: L-G amid protest | Latest News India

Amid protests towards imposition of property tax in Jammu and Kashmir, Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Manoj Sinha on Monday stated it was least within the nation and didn’t burden the widespread man.

“We’ve got repeatedly stated the administration believes in dialogue. I need to inform residents of J-Ok that now we have imposed least property tax,” he instructed reporters on the sidelines of a perform in Srinagar.

“For our cities to grow to be development centres, work shall be accomplished. The cash (from property tax) shall be used so that there’s an enchancment in providers for a mean citizen. I need to request the typical citizen of J&Ok to assist the administration in transferring forward in making a great Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.

Sinha additional stated: “Statistics say that there are round 5.20 lakh homes in Srinagar, Jammu and different municipal areas of which 2.06 lakh homes are under 1,000 sq toes, that means no tax on 40% of the folks.”

The administration’s efforts are geared toward “avoiding any inconvenience” to the widespread man, he stated.

The Union Territory administration final week ordered the imposition of property tax in municipal areas from April 1. As per the federal government notification, the tax charges shall be 5 per cent of the taxable annual worth for residential properties and 6 per cent for business properties.

The choice drew sturdy protests from folks from virtually all walks of life. Political events, together with the BJP, have sought a right away rollback of the order.

The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Business (KCCI) on Saturday appealed to the administration to place the imposition of property tax on maintain because the financial state of affairs “shouldn’t be conducive to burden folks”.
