Russia launched its first mission to the floor of the Moon in practically half a century, in a bid to be the primary nation to land on the lunar south pole.
Moscow’s Luna 25 mission lifted off on schedule from the Vostochny Cosmodrome within the Russian Far East.
The Moon’s south pole is believed to carry deposits of water.
The Russian mission is racing towards India, which despatched up its personal lander final month that’s already orbiting the Moon.
Russia’s area chief informed Interfax the lander is predicted to the touch down on 21 August. As of earlier this week, India’s Chandrayaan-3’s spacecraft was resulting from attain the floor on 23 August.
