Sandeshkhali accused used shell firms to divert profits: ED | Latest News India

Arrested Trinamool Congress (TMC) chief Sheikh Shahjahan used a number of shell corporations to divert earnings from fisheries that he and his males have been operating at Sandeshkhali in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district by grabbing farmland owned by native farmers, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) claimed earlier than a Kolkata courtroom on Monday.

Shahjahan, who was in judicial custody, was transferred to the ED’s custody until April 13 by Kolkata’s Bankshall courtroom on Monday. “Firms claiming to be dealing in prawns have been utilized by Shahjahan to divert the funds. The ED has already traced ₹31.2 crore. The entire quantity concerned is way larger,” stated Arijit Chakraborty, a lawyer who represented the company in courtroom.

Shahjahan’s lawyer, Zakir Hossain, informed the media that he objected to the allegations ED raised demanding Shahjahan’s arrest and remand below Prevention of Cash Laundering Act (PMLA).

“I urged the courtroom to not grant the ED’s demand for custody as a result of ED couldn’t present any documentary proof that straight implicates my shopper below PPMLA. However the courtroom granted the remand,” Hossain stated.

Shahjahan stayed in hiding for 55 days following the January 5 assault on ED officers, who raided his house in reference to the alleged PDS rip-off by which former meals minister Jyotipriya Mullick was arrested final 12 months.

Days after arresting him on February 28, state police handed over Shahjahan to the CBI following Calcutta excessive courtroom’s orders.
