The Supreme Courtroom Monday directed the Bombay Excessive Courtroom to listen to and determine expeditiously the bail plea of Maharashtra’s former residence minister Anil Deshmukh, arrested in reference to a cash laundering case.
A bench of Justices D Y Chandrachud and Hima Kohli famous that the bail plea of Deshmukh is pending within the excessive courtroom since March 21.
“Any one that has filed a bail software has a reputable expectation that his plea can be disposed of at an early date. Retaining an software for bail pending shouldn’t be in line with the Proper to Life underneath Article 21.
“We problem a path and allow the petitioner to use earlier than the realized choose to whom the case has been assigned tomorrow. The appliance shall be taken for listening to throughout the course of this week and determined expeditiously,” the bench stated.
The highest courtroom clarified that it has not expressed any opinion on the deserves of the case.
Justice N J Jamadar of the excessive courtroom is listening to the bail plea of Deshmukh.
Deshmukh was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in November 2021 and is at present in judicial custody.
