Athletes is usually a superstitious lot. However Australian star Steve Smith has one unusual superstition: he doesn’t sleep till he has batted within the first innings throughout a Check match.
Smith not too long ago opened up on this superstition in an episode of The Change with former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen.
“I’d most likely wrestle (to sleep) till I’ve batted within the first innings after which I’m fairly chilled. Even when I am going out and face like 5 balls within the first innings and it’s the top of the evening or one thing like that, I’d be superb. However till I’ve really gone out and performed that first innings, I don’t know. I simply, I’ve at all times struggled,” Smith informed Pietersen.

To this, Pietersen requested if it was a case of pre-match nerves. He added that he had heard so many anecdotes of how Smith could be in his room along with his bat simply shadow batting.
