Straight trees always cut first: Ashok Khemka over appointment of his batchmates as secretaries

“Straight timber are all the time lower first”, stated senior bureaucrat Ashok Khemka whereas reacting to appointments of a few of his batchmates as secretaries in numerous Central authorities departments.

Khemka, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1991 batch, is at present serving as Principal Secretary (Extra Secretary stage) in his cadre state Haryana.

The Appointments Committee of the Cupboard on Wednesday authorised the appointment of 16 senior bureaucrats, together with his batchmates, as secretaries in numerous Central authorities departments.

“Congratulations to my batchmates newly appointed as Secretaries to GOI! Whereas that is an event for merry, it brings an equal measure of despondency for one’s personal self having been left behind. Straight timber are all the time lower first. No regrets. With renewed resolve, I shall persist,” Khemka tweeted.

Manoj Govil, a 1991-batch IAS officer of the Madhya Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as Secretary within the Ministry of Company Affairs.

Khemka’s one other batchmate Shailesh Kumar Singh from the Jharkhand cadre has been named as Rural Growth Secretary in Wednesday’s reshuffle.

Equally, Sudhansh Pant (additionally a 1991 batch IAS officer of Rajasthan cadre) has been appointed as Secretary within the Ministry of Ports, Transport and Waterways after incumbent Sanjeev Ranjan superannuates on January 31, 2023.

There are additionally another officers of the 1991 batch who’ve been appointed as secretaries in central authorities departments.
