Dozens of residents from the Russian border area of Kursk have been returned to Russia from Ukraine following uncommon and “painstaking” talks between Moscow and Kyiv, Moscow stated Friday.
Kyiv launched a significant floor offensive into the Kursk area in August, capturing massive swathes of Russian territory dwelling to hundreds of civilians.
It was not clear why the residents had been transported into Ukraine, and there was no fast remark from Kyiv.
“At present, 46 residents of the Kursk area returned to Russia from Ukraine because of a negotiation course of with the Ukrainian facet,” Russian human rights ombudsman Tatiana Moskalkova stated.
The residents have been all from the Sudzhansky district, dwelling to the border city of Sudzha which Ukraine captured shortly after launching its offensive, in response to native governor Alexei Smirnov.
“The painstaking and prolonged negotiations to return our fellow countrymen to their homeland have introduced outcomes,” he stated on Telegram.
The residents included 12 kids and have been returned by way of Belarus, with all of them being given “all obligatory help”, he added.
