Carone, who resigned from his place in 2022 to run a consulting agency, has been a longtime good friend of Gigantiello, and federal investigators have been inspecting their enterprise relationship, together with investments in actual property. Carone now chairs Adams’ re-election marketing campaign, including one other layer of complexity to the case.
Simply days after the subpoena was issued, Mayor Adams was indicted by a federal grand jury on prices together with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, federal program bribery, and accepting unlawful marketing campaign contributions.
In response to the indictment, Adams allegedly defrauded New York Metropolis taxpayers of $10 million by manipulating the town’s marketing campaign finance system, which matches public funds to small marketing campaign contributions.
