Nepal elections: Counting of votes starts amid tight security

The ruling Nepali Congress on Monday received the primary seat for the Home of Representatives as counting of votes for the parliamentary and provincial elections started amid tight safety.

The counting began at 7 am native time and can proceed until 5 pm, a day after about 61 per cent polling was recorded throughout the Himalayan nation.

Officers from the Election Fee, representatives of events and the media are current on the centres.

Recording of votes for constituencies 1, 3, 4, 6, and seven of Kathmandu, all constituencies of Lalitpur and Bhaktapur has begun, The Himalayan Instances newspaper reported.

Likewise, counting has additionally begun in Kaski, Jhapa, Mustang, Saptari, Banke, Rupandehi and Nawalparasi west, it mentioned.

The Nepali Congress (NC) opened its account as its candidate Yogesh Gauchan Thakali has been elected as a member to the Home of Representatives from Mustang.

Gauchan secured 3,992 votes in opposition to his nearest rival Prem Tulachan of CPN-UML, who secured 3,078, in response to the Election Fee.

The vote counting in Taplejung has been delayed as helicopter firms expressed the shortcoming to airlift the poll containers from distant areas within the district.

The District Election Administration Committee mentioned that the poll containers of Olangchungola, Yangma, Gybla and Ghunsa polling stations of Paktanglung Rural Municipality Ward No 6 and seven are being introduced by land route, Republica newspaper reported.

Yangma is essentially the most distant polling station within the district. The crew that walked from the capital Fungling to conduct voting reached Yangma, which lies at an altitude of 4,200 meters, in 4 days. A complete of 12 of the full 61 votes have been forged within the space.

In the meantime, 4 police personnel died and eight others have been injured when their jeep veered off a hilly street at Ningladi stream of Patan Municipality in Baitadi district on Monday morning.
