The Haskell Free Library and Opera Home, a landmark group establishment constructed intentionally throughout the Canada–US border in 1904 so neighbours may share books and performances, has opened a brand new Canada-only entrance.
This comes after the Trump administration restricted entry for people coming into from Canada, barring them from utilizing the library’s unique major entrance, located in Vermont on the US aspect of the border.
For greater than a century, guests from each nations moved freely via the constructing, crossing the worldwide border marked by a strip of black tape on the ground. However tighter US safety guidelines successfully closed the historic shared entrance to Canadian guests in October 2025.
The brand new entrance, created from a former emergency exit on the Canadian aspect, was a pricey undertaking funded partly via group fundraising.
