Gollabhama sarees of Telangana get Unesco listing; an honour to Siddipet weavers: Govt

The Telangana authorities on Sunday hailed the itemizing of Gollabhama sarees, a singular number of sarees made in Siddipet district, as an iconic craft of India by the United Nations Instructional Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco).

State finance and well being minister T Harish Rao, who represents Siddipet constituency, mentioned the Unesco had communicated to the state authorities that the Gollabhama sarees woven at Siddipet have been listed beneath iconic crafts of the nation.

Describing it as an honour to the talent of Siddipet weavers, Rao mentioned the state authorities was making all efforts to advertise Gollabhama sarees via the state textiles division and would arrange stalls everywhere in the nation.

He mentioned Gollabhama sarees of Siddipet have been granted geographical index tag practically 10 years in the past and now it was heartening to notice that that they had gained the Unesco recognition.

“Siddipet has grow to be the only tackle for these distinctive sarees made completely by the native weavers. We will current these Gollabhama sarees as presents to guests who arrive from varied components of the nation and from internationally,” he mentioned.

In its report on “Handmade for the twenty first Century: Safeguarding Conventional Indian Textile,” Unesco listed the historical past and legends behind the textiles, particularly the strenuous efforts put in by the weavers.

Other than Siddipet Gollabhama sarees, Telangana’s Himru weaving and Gongadi sheep wool blankets have been additionally featured within the Unesco’s checklist of practically 50 iconic textile crafts of the nation.
