After Siddaramaiah flags faulty Kannada translation, Meta issues apology | India News

Social media large Meta on Thursday apologised and stated it has fastened a problem associated to inaccurate Kannada translation on its platforms after Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah raised severe issues about deceptive content material.

Elevating alarm over the issue, Siddaramaiah stated defective auto-translation of Kannada content material on Fb and Instagram was distorting information and probably deceptive customers.

“We fastened a problem that briefly precipitated this inaccurate Kannada translation. We apologize that this occurred,” a Meta spokesperson stated, as per PTI.

In a submit on X, Siddaramaiah wrote: “Defective auto-translation of Kannada content material on Meta platforms is distorting information and deceptive customers. That is particularly harmful in the case of official communication. My media advisor has formally written to Meta urging instant correction.”

He added: “Social media platforms should act responsibly. I warning residents to remember that translations proven are sometimes inaccurate. Such negligence by tech giants can hurt public understanding and belief.”

As per the report by PTI, the chief minister’s media advisor, Ok V Prabhakar, emailed Meta on July 16 urging instant motion and raised issues over the automated translation of Kannada content material, particularly in official communication.

The Karnataka authorities has requested Meta to briefly droop the auto-translation characteristic for Kannada content material till translation accuracy is reliably improved.

Machine translations are generally proven to customers on Fb and Instagram, together with in public biographical data and particular posts.
