Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) dismissed a query of whether or not or not she’ll run for president in 2028 on Friday evening, stating that her “ambition is method greater.”
“My ambition is to alter this nation,” Ocasio-Cortez advised Democratic strategist David Axelrod throughout a dialog hosted by the College of Chicago’s Institute of Politics. “Presidents come and go, Senate, Home seats, elected officers, come and go, however single-payer healthcare is perpetually. A dwelling wage is perpetually. Staff’ rights are perpetually. Girls’s rights — all of that.”
Nevertheless, based on Ocasio-Cortez, her political ambitions are to “meet the second,” noting that “circumstances change radically on a regular basis.”
“So I make my response much less to an attachment to some … title or place, and dealing backwards from there.” Ocasio-Cortez advised Axelrod. “However I make selections by waking up within the morning, searching the window and observing the circumstances of this nation and saying what transfer or what resolution can I make right now that’s going to get us nearer to that future, stronger, quicker, higher than yesterday and people circumstances.”
She went on to say her “selections come from a really substantive place,” highlighting that no elite energy can forestall her from “waking up day by day in service of the working class.”
“And I can try this within the Home. I can do it within the Senate. I can do it from the White Home. I can do it from a shack in upstate New York, chopping wooden and being a burnout — like, I can do it,” Ocasio-Cortez concluded.
