Baggage handling staffers among 5 arrested for stealing gold from luggage at Mangaluru airport | Bangalore News

4 baggage dealing with staffers working at Mangaluru Worldwide Airport had been arrested together with one other individual for stealing 56 g of gold jewelry from a passenger’s baggage, the police stated on Tuesday, including that they exploited weak locks or straightforward password mixtures to achieve entry to passenger belongings.

On August 30, a girl arriving from Bengaluru on an Air India Categorical flight found that the gold jewelry price Rs 4.5 lakh had vanished from her checked baggage and instantly reported the theft to the Bajpe police station.

The investigation led to the arrests of 4 Air India SATS Airport Providers workers—recognized as Nithin, Sadananda, Rajesh, and Praveen Fernandes—and Raviraj, who allegedly acquired the stolen gold from the others, who labored as baggage loaders and unloaders.

The police stated they recovered roughly 50 g of the stolen jewelry from the accused. All of the accused belong to Mangaluru. 4 of them have labored with Air India SATS for practically 9 years, based on officers, elevating questions on worker screening and monitoring processes.

The police stated the investigation revealed that the accused had focused baggage containing high-value gadgets resembling gold and money, usually exploiting weak locks or simply guessed password mixtures to achieve entry to passenger belongings.

A police officer stated that Rs 2 lakh was stolen from a passenger’s baggage in January.

The Mangaluru police warned passengers in opposition to retaining valuables in checked baggage.

“We request passengers to keep away from putting gold, money, or different costly gadgets of their checked baggage. This case is a wake-up name—not only for passengers but in addition for airline safety,” a police officer stated.

An airport spokesperson stated the arrested accused weren’t MIA workers however had been on the payrolls of Air India and Air India Categorical, a part of the TATA group. MIA has been operated by the Adani group since 2020.
