Bengaluru: Accused dies in police custody; Kin alleges ‘custodial death’ | Bengaluru

An accused arrested in an tried dacoity case died beneath mysterious circumstances right here at Bengaluru’s Cottonpet police station on Thursday, Police mentioned. The kin of the deceased alleged it to be a case of “custodial loss of life”

Deceased Vinod, who was in police custody, is a resident of Cottonpet, Bengaluru was delivered to the police station on Wednesday in reference to a case.

“He was to be produced earlier than the courtroom on Thursday. Nevertheless, when the Station Home Officer of the police station observed the accused Vinod on early Thursday, he was discovered unconscious,” Bengaluru police mentioned.

The Cottonpet police had introduced the accused Vinod to the police station on Wednesday night on a non-bailable warrant.

“Vinod had fallen unconscious within the early morning on Thursday. He was taken to Victoria Hospital round 3 am, the place he was pronounced useless on arrival by docs who examined him,” police added.

Bengaluru Police mentioned they’d registered a case of custodial loss of life.

“All procedures can be adopted on this case in accordance with the Nationwide Human Rights Fee (NHRC) Act. And the case can be handed over to the Prison Investigation Division (CID) of the Karnataka State Police,” Deputy Commissioner of Police, West Division, Bengaluru Metropolis, Laxman Nimbaragi mentioned.

Cottonpet police had registered a case of tried dacoity in opposition to Vinod on April 21, 2017. The opposite 4 accused had been reportedly arrested whereas planning to rob passers-by close to the compound of the Veterinary Hospital on Mysore Street.

Police mentioned they had been looking out for Vinod after the courtroom issued three Non-Bailable Warrants in opposition to him.

“Vinod was drunk when he was delivered to the station. He was put in a cell round 7 pm. As per the process, the SHO has to test the accused within the cells each two hours,” Bengaluru Police mentioned.
