Comedian Vir Das’ show cancelled in Bengaluru following opposition from right-wing outfit

Comic Vir Das’ present, scheduled to be held on Thursday night in Bengaluru, was cancelled on the final minute following protests by a right-wing outfit.

In a submit on Instagram, he mentioned that the present was pushed resulting from unavoidable circumstances. “Hey of us. As a result of unavoidable circumstances we’re pushing the Bengaluru present. New particulars and dates quickly. Sorry for the inconvenience,” he mentioned.

 

Earlier this week, the right-wing group Hindu Janajagruthi Vedike had urged the police to cancel the permission given to Das to carry the present. The outfit alleged that Das will harm Hindu non secular sentiments by the present.

A letter submitted on the Vyalikaval police station by Mohan Gowda, state spokesperson of the outfit, demanded that “(sic) this program be canceled instantly”.

The comic, based on the petition, had handed derogatory remarks in opposition to ladies, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India at a present on the John F Kennedy Middle in Washington DC, which “denigrated the nation”, the outfit added.

The outfit took offence at a line within the Washington present the place Vir Das mentioned, “In India, we worship ladies within the day and rape them at evening.”

“On this background, it’s not proper to permit such a controversial particular person to carry such a program in a communally delicate space like Bangalore. When Karnataka is already going through many regulation and order issues resulting from communal accidents [sic], such occasions which might vitiate the regulation and order (state of affairs) and shouldn’t be allowed. We demand that this program must be canceled instantly,” the petition learn.

The present was scheduled to happen at 5.30 pm on the Chowdaiah Memorial Corridor in Malleswaram. The organiser of the occasion– YOSN Innovation– mentioned in an announcement that the occasion has been cancelled, based on information company PTI.

“As a result of unavoidable circumstances, the stand-up comedy present of Vir Das stands cancelled, which was scheduled on November 11, 2022 on the Chowdaiah Memorial Corridor,” YOSN Innovation mentioned in its letter to the Chowdaiah Memorial Corridor authorities.
