Govt resumes sugar exports; allows 6 million tons on quota basis till May 31

The federal government on Saturday allowed export of 6 million tonnes of sugar on quota foundation until Might 31, in keeping with a meals ministry notification.

As per the notification, the ministry has allotted a uniform export quota of 18.23 per cent of the three years common manufacturing of the sweetener in operational sugar seasons.

Sugar mills can export themselves or by way of exporters or swap with home sale quota of every other mills, it mentioned.

Sugar season runs from October to September.

“In an effort to forestall uncontrolled export of sugar or with a view to make sure enough availability of sugar for home consumption at an affordable worth, authorities has determined to permit export of sugar upto an affordable restrict with impact from November 1 until Might 31, 2023,” it mentioned.

In response to official sources, the primary tranche of quota has been allowed solely until Might-end. Additional allocation of quota for export will probably be determined primarily based on the home sugar manufacturing.

The sugar manufacturing within the new 2022-23 season commenced in Maharashtra and Karnataka from October onwards, whereas in Uttar Pradesh and remainder of the cane rising states, it would kick off in every week’s time.
