Three hikers – together with two foreigners and an area resident – have died after Indonesia’s Mount Dukono volcano erupted on Friday.
Mount Dukono is an energetic volcano on the island of Halmahera, located to the east of Sulawesi. In accordance with the Volcanological Survey of Indonesia, it erupted at 07:41 native time (22:41 GMT Thursday) sending ash plumes 10km into the sky.
Rescuers have discovered all of the survivors from a gaggle of 20 hikers who went lacking after the eruption. Most have been evacuated from the mountain and are receiving therapy in hospital – although two porters remained behind to help in finding the our bodies.
Officers stated the group – which incorporates 9 Singaporeans – had been climbing up the volcano regardless of an current climbing ban.
