Karnataka govt committed to increasing SC/ST quota, says Bommai; all-party meeting today

A day after the Opposition Congress, together with social gathering chief Rahul Gandhi, demanded that the Karnataka authorities implement the Justice Nagamohan Das Committee report and enhance the reservation for SC/STs, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai stated the federal government was dedicated to implementing it.

Bommai has convened an all-party assembly on Friday to debate the proposal to extend reservation for the communities. “We’re dedicated in the direction of implementing the experiences of Justices Nagamohan Das and Subash B Adi and climbing the reservation,” the chief minister stated.

BJP nationwide common secretary C T Ravi advised reporters Friday that the state BJP core committee has handed a decision looking for a rise in reservation for ST communities. “Core committee has urged Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai to challenge an order climbing reservation on the earliest,” he stated.

On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi – whose Bharat Jodo Yatra is passing by way of the state – demanded that the BJP authorities instantly convene a legislature session and implement the solutions of the Justice Nagamohan Das Committee report.

Earlier, Congress leaders together with Opposition chief Siddaramaiah and Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president D Okay Shivakumar had focused the federal government for not accepting the report regardless that it was tabled two years in the past. The report has really useful climbing reservation for these belonging to the Scheduled Caste (SC) from three to seven per cent, and for Scheduled Tribes (ST) from 15 to 17 per cent. This needs to be carried out on the earliest, the Congress stated, accusing the BJP of appearing in opposition to the pursuits of SC/ST communities.
