Karnataka withdraws permit exemption for electric, methanol, ethanol vehicles; free passes to be issued for continued ops | Bangalore News

The Karnataka Transport Division Wednesday withdrew the allow exemption granted to battery-powered, methanol, and ethanol-fuelled transport automobiles underneath the Motor Automobiles Act. Nevertheless, the division has determined to problem free passes to such automobiles to forestall disruption to move companies and preserve public order.

The order clears the best way for registering battery-operated automobiles as transport automobiles in Karnataka. Till now, electrical automobiles (EVs) have been primarily registered solely as private automobiles.

These free passes will probably be obtainable to each newly registered and current battery-powered, methanol, and ethanol-fuelled transport automobiles working within the state with out permits.

A transport division official stated, “Round 10,000 automobiles fall underneath this class within the state. All have been exempted from acquiring permits from the transport division and have been plying unregulated. By bringing them underneath regulation, it allows correct oversight on security, insurance coverage, fare construction, and interstate motion.”

These automobiles loved exemption from allow necessities underneath Part 66(3)(n) of the Motor Automobiles Act, 1988. This allowed them to function freely while not having a transport allow — a transfer aimed toward selling eco-friendly and different gasoline applied sciences.
