NHRC issues notice to Telangana DGP over auto rickshaw driver’s death | India News

The Nationwide Human Rights Fee (NHRC) on Thursday took suo motu cognisance of a media report on an auto rickshaw driver’s loss of life in Hyderabad, allegedly after he was subjected to “bodily torture” by the police, and sought an in depth report from the Telangana director common of police.

The alleged incident happened on Might 13 on the Rajendranagar police station in Hyderabad. Auto rickshaw driver Mohammed Irfan died hours after he was summoned to the police station for counselling in a marital dispute, main his household to allege that he was subjected to police brutality. The police mentioned he had died of a cardiac arrest.

The NHRC mentioned that the media reviews, “if true, elevate a critical violation of the human rights of the sufferer”, and issued a discover to the Director Normal of Police, Telangana, “calling for an in depth report within the matter, inside two weeks”.

After an hour, when he got here out of the Police Station, he began vomiting and collapsed. He was taken to the hospital, the place he was declared useless by the medical doctors,” the NHRC mentioned in a press launch.

Talking to indianexpress.com, Ch Srinivas, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rajendranagar zone), had denied allegations of police excesses and cited CCTV visuals to counsel the identical.

Irfan, in accordance with the police, was summoned to the Rajendranagar police station for counselling after his spouse, Nishad Begum, alleged that he was in an extramarital relationship with one other lady.

“Following a quarrel, each Irfan and the lady have been dropped at the police station round 9 pm by their members of the family for counselling. The police counselled each events and suggested them towards sustaining additional contact,” DCP Srinivas had mentioned. Later, Irfan allegedly collapsed all of a sudden and fell unconscious whereas returning house.
